A letter from President Joya Rush-Keli

Hello DSWPS Members,

I hope you are looking forward to our DSWPS general membership meeting of the 2020-2021 year. It is the Annual meeting for this year and and we will be voting on several issues, including our collaboration with Empowering Women Artists.

The in-person meeting will take place on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 at 11:00 am, on Belle Isle. This meeting will be as safe as is possible in an outdoor setting. While many of us have received our COVID vaccinations, not all of us have. So we will continue to follow the precautions of social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing masks. We will again be meeting under the large roofed, open-air shelter # 8W (West), in case of rain, with a clean restroom on site.

You'll need to bring suitable clothing, your mask, hand sanitizer, folding outdoor chair, and your lunch. It is suggested that you also bring your art supplies, for our outdoor art (plein air) activity, after the business part of our meeting. We will also be sharing what’s been happening to each of us, during this period.

The shelter 8W is located on Riverbank Rd.  This is the same road as the Detroit Yacht Club is on, past the beach, on the Detroit side of the island. This is the same road one takes to leave the island. There is parking across the street from the shelter and a few spots near the shelter building.

May is Membership Month!

Membership is open to any woman, artist or non-artist, regardless of residence, who is interested in the promotion of art and wishes to participate in the DSWPS activities. Generosity of spirit, inspiration, encouragement, learning from each other, and a friendly and supportive atmosphere are just some of the reasons why members are attracted to the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.

Annual dues are $35 for regular members ($38 if paying by Paypal) and $18 ($21 via Paypal) for those not residing in Michigan.

To join the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, please download a membership form HERE and mail it with your dues check to the address indicated.

DSWPS Outing: The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Detroit

We are planning an outing centered around The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Detroit (tickets.detroitvangogh.com). This may consist of a tour of a nearby museum or gallery and lunch. Tickets start at $39.99 plus fees. The box office recommend purchasing tickets at Off-Peak times as a group (9-10 am on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday - month depending). We are aiming for early December or mid-January. Tickets need to be purchased and paid for all at one time and it is imperative we do this quickly because the first month is already sold out!

Please let Maria D'Agostini (maria.dagostini@yahoo.com, (586) 322-5724) know if you are interested and if you have any preferences (December vs. January...etc). Once I have a sense of how large the group will be, working out the logistics will be much easier.
