In brief, I am a self-taught painter working in oils. I took sculpture classes as a Continuing Education student with the late Jay Holland at CCS, and afterwards, for short time, with Janice Trimpe at her Grosse Pointe studio.
I belong to the Michigan Sculptors Guild, the Dearborn Artist's Society and the Downriver Council for the Arts. In the past, I have exhibited with many groups and as a vendor at art fairs in Dearborn, Wyandotte, Plymouth and Rochester Hills. Now I am back in the studio and recently took up plein air painting and stone carving, both of which I am enjoying greatly. I am endeavoring to become more active with the local art groups, and most recently won a ribbon for a sculpture at the 2017 Dearborn Artist's Society Fall Show at Centennial Library.
A long time ago I was advised to paint what I love, so my art includes a lot of gardens and landscapes. My sculptural work springs from the same root, namely, what I love or touches my heart, and it is generally figurative work. As I have moved to stone sculpture, it is getting more abstract or stylized due to the nature of the stone itself.
