Cheryl Ann Boc-Chidester

For as long as she can remember, Cheryl has thought of herself as an artist and, although it has sometimes been challenging, she has strived to stay connected to that part of her. The creative process has been an integral part of her life while life experiences have influenced her art.

After attending Eastern Michigan University and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (and, later, a Master of Science in Historic Preservation), she has held a number of art-related positions – graphic designer, gallery manager, art instructor, muralist, set designer, architectural historian. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Argus Museum and is the proprietor of Cheryl’s Creative Custom Art & Framing, while continuing to pursue her passion -  creating artwork.

Although Cheryl’s art can be described as eclectic, it shares common themes and is often inspired by nature, her travels and adventures, and by her love of history. These themes are often interconnected in her art, as they are in our world. She strives to create art that interprets and shares personal perspectives of a culture, place, or moment in time. She works in a variety of media and frequently combines techniques and media employing textures, light and color. She appreciates exploring materials, methods, and ideas, while staying true to them, as they guide her to a finished piece of art expressing an interpretation and sharing the experience.

Cheryl is a member of the Detroit Society of Women Painters & Sculptors, the Guild (Ann Arbor), the Huron River Art Collective, the Brighton Art Guild, Creative Washtenaw, Aligned Exhibits, Three Cities Art Club and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
