Scholarship Report - 2022 04 14
Research was conducted to find contact information for instructors and counselors at nine(9) colleges and universities that provide art degrees in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Thirty-seven(37) contacts received scholarship application information. Ten(10) applications, and one letter of reference without an application, were received from four(4) different institutions (CCS, Macomb, Madonna, and OCC). Applications were organized and sent to members of the Scholarship Committee. The Committee (Jan Duscay, Kim Santini, and myself) met via zoom and reviewed all received applications. We distilled the list down to 5 potential applicants and sent them on to Lori Z. And Katie M. for additional comments and review. A final decision was made with the scholarship being awarded to Julianna Sanroman Rojas.
I contacted Julianna’s instructor at CCS and allowed him to make the announcement to Julianna. He was so excited and grateful to be able to break the news to her.
I purchased package certificates (pkg of 15), certificate folders (pkg of 6), and envelopes (pkg of 25) at Office Max (total $49.57). These should last for a few years with no other additional purchases (and then only document folders). The certificates work with an on-line program to print them. I feel this minor expense gives the student something to hold onto long after the check is cashed.
All the stars aligned for Julianna to be at our opening. Susan M let us take some time at the beginning of the award ceremony to introduce Julianna and present her with her check, and many of you had a chance to spend some time with her. It was clear that the committee had made a great choice. Julianna is aware that she will be invited to show with us at the Northville show.
In the future, more academics will be added to our contact list, and as word gets around to the various institutions that we have expanded to include them, I anticipate that there should be a significant increase in applications. I intend to follow-up with an email to all the instructors, references, and applicants thanking them for their participation, and inviting them to join us. I need help with creating and distributing some sort of press release.
I would like to contact as many previous awardees to invite them to join us, perhaps enticing them with waiving membership fees for one year. This is going to involve significant research, since the way the program has been administered in the past, contact information of applicants and awardees is not available.
I hope that you think this has been a successful scholarship season - hopefully, more to come
Respectfully submitted, Theresa Moore
