Barbara Eko Murphy

Learning never stops. At the age of 60, after medically retiring from Livonia as a classroom teacher, Barbara Eko Murphy started watercolor lessons with Edee Joppich. Edee set a spark that led Barb to several opportunities. After a year of study, Barb was encouraged to do a solo art show by two artists. Today Barb is a self appointed Art Town Crier, sharing art opportunities with all area artists on her emailing list. Barb enjoys entering juried art shows that support all artists.

She has been accepted in over 400 Juried art shows since 2001, won 40 awards, and had 52 solos, as of 2019. Lawrence Street Art Gallery, where she was a member for several years, also opened up a variety of opportunities to showcase her art and share art ideas with fellow members. Barb has also requested and implemented art shows for other artists at Detroit Metro area businesses, and she has started independent portrait groups in Novi and Northville. Through the years, Barb continued to study art at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, the Village Arts Association of Livonia, the University of Michigan, as well as with national artists and international artists.

Barbara Eko Murphy loves drawing live models. She uses inks, charcoals, acrylics, and watercolors. She also dabbles in creating abstracts, landscapes, animals, and floral paintings. Barb sets the spark for others to enjoy sharing art and learning to do art. Her passion for arts has helped her recover from illness. Learning never stops.
